Meeting Report of the IAOMS Trainee Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Interest Group in Barcelona ICOMS 2013.

Good Night !

This is a report on the meeting of residents of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery , unlike in Chile there were not many residents, the meeting was organized with 3 presentantions of IAOMS executives, who spoke on various topics .

BACKGROUND OF THE INITIATIVE OF RESIDENTS 

Dr. Robert Woodwards , began the meeting with a presentation on the first meetings of residents that were made in the past in Europe, involved residents of England, Spain, Italy, France and other countries, he told us how helpful and richfull was for meet and share experiences, this organization even get to have a name, thus formally could make an agreement with the IAOMS and became part of it, unfortunately this "trainee section" disappeared in time, now with the high facilities offered by social networks they are considering reviving this initiative under the direction of Dr. Deepak Krishnan .

PROJEC TRAIN

This segment was led by Dr. Satheesh Prabhu, director of the initiative , delivered successful results of projec train past webminars, explained that his biggest problem is the schedules times between countries, the project has grown a lot, asked for suggestions, they are discussing the possibility of online clinical cases among trainees program (the hardest part of this is the organization), this can be solved including a responsible by region to help plan the conference, they must have a sense of commitment and be skilled in order to convince and train the speakers to use the system, the system that allows the webminars is very simple, and also the elect assigned region collaborate with the moderation of lectures, and so do Projec Train in the local language and a comfortable hour for all . The Doctor is a very open to all opinions, those interested in helping can contact him in the next group ;

IAOMS TRAINEE INTEREST GROUP

This segment was led by Dr. Deepak Krishnaan , who is the executive in charge of the section IAOMS residents, has great ideas and projects, including the main ideas is to create a forum for discussion and produce greater interactivity in the group of residents Initiative on Facebook;

The idea is to exploit the potential of social media to keep alive a feedback mechanism, where residents go to find information on the group each week and encourage the same way his new teammates to do the same , also indicated that they are putting much emphasis on the Fellowships and exchange between residents worldwide, one 3rd year traine of a place can be exchanged for other 3rd year trainee. At this time Dr. Su Yin Htun join us, she was selected for the Fellowship of patients with cleft lip and palate IAOMS of last year, she narrated stories of his experience in this fellow that consisted of a rotation of 3 different countries.

Dr. Deepak calls all residents to join this initiative and give advice on how to improve it, all opinions are noted and then discussed for channeling, with this in mind as well as opening the Facebook group opened a site dedicated especially for residents on the official website of the IAOMS where official announcements will be made and all relevant news as related to fellowships ;

It is worth noting that in Latin America the ALACIBU is doing similar work under the direction of Dr. Henry Garcia Guevara, hope to have results in the coming months about it.

Reporte de la Reunión de Residentes de Cirugía Bucal y Maxilofacial en el ICOMS Barcelona 2013.

A continuación un reporte sobre la reunión de residentes de la International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a diferencia de la que hubo en Chile no hubo muchos residentes, eramos pocos los residentes de Latinoamerica, en su mayoría eran de Europa, la reunión estuvo organizada por varias presentaciones de ejecutivos de la IAOMS,  que hablaron de diversos tópicos.

ANTECEDENTES DE LA INICIATIVA DE RESIDENTES

El Doctor Robert Woodwards, empezó la reunión con una presentación sobre las primeras reuniones  de residentes que se realizaron en el pasado en Europa, participaban residentes de Inglaterra, España, Italia, Francia entre otros países, se realizaron muchas, narro lo provechoso que fue el conocer y compartir experiencias, esta organización incluso a llegar a tener un nombre, de esta forma pudieron realizar de manera formal un acuerdo con la IAOMS y pasaron a formar parte de la misma, desafortunadamente esta "ala" desapareció con el tiempo, actualmente con las altas facilidades que ofrecen las redes sociales se está planteando revivir esta iniciativa bajo la dirección del Dr. Deepak Krishnan.

PROJEC TRAIN

Este segmento fue llevado por el Dr. Satheesh Prabhu, director de esta iniciativa, entrego resultados del exíto de projec train, explico que su mayor problema son los tiempos horarios entre los distintos países, el proyecto ha crecido muchisimo, pidio sugerencias de los presentes para dar un nuevo paso, se esta manejando la posibilidad de discutir casos clínicos online entre postgrados, incluso la posibilidad de elegir unos encargados por región que ayuden a planificar las conferencias, los mismos deben tener un sentido del compromiso y ser hábiles para poder convencer y entrenar a los conferencistas para usar el sistema, el sistema de las conferencias Online es muy sencillo, los elegidos además de coordinar la región asignada colaborarán con la moderación de las conferencias, de Proyect train y así hacerlo en el idioma local y a una hora más cómoda para todos. El Doctor es una persona muy abierta a todas las opiniones, aquellos interesados en colaborar pueden contactarlo en el siguiente grupo;

INICIATIVA DE RESIDENTES DE LA IAOMS

Este segmento fue dirigido por el Dr. Deepak Krishnaan, quién es el ejecutivo de la IAOMS encargado de la sección de residentes, tiene muy buenas ideas y proyectos, entre las principales ideas es crear un foro de discusión y producir mayor interactividad en el grupo de la Iniciativa de los residentes en Facebook;

La idea es explotar el potencial de las redes sociales para mantener activo un mecanismo de retroalimentación, donde los residentes acudan a buscar información en el grupo cada semana y de esta misma forma motivar a sus nuevos compañeros a realizar lo mismo, así mismo indico que están poniendo mucho enfásis en los Fellowships e intercambio entre residentes a nivel mundial, un R3 de un lugar por otro R3. En este momento llego la Dra. Su Yin Htun, quien fue seleccionada para el Fellowship de pacientes con paladar y labio hendido de la IAOMS el año pasado, quien narro anécdotas de su experiencia en dicho fellow que consistía en una rotación por 3 países distintos.

El Dr. Deepak llama a todos los residentes unirse a esta iniciativa y dar su opinión de como mejorarla, todas las opiniones son anotadas y luego discutidas para su canalización, con esta idea en mente además de abrir el grupo en Facebook se abrió un sitio dedicado especialmente para los residentes en la página oficial de la IAOMS, donde se harán anuncios oficiales y noticias de importancia a todos como las relacionadas a los fellowships;

Sin duda fue una reunión muy motivadora sobre las nuevas cosas y oportunidades que se avecina de parte de la IAOMS, sin embargo el papel de cada residente de mantener esta iniciativas vivas, es el motor que mantiene a estos doctores con las baterias cargadas para continuar trabajando. Vale la pena destacar que en America Latina en la ALACIBU se esta realizando un trabajo similar bajo la dirección del Dr. Henry García Guevara, esperamos tener resultados en los próximos meses al respecto.
